Ballybog Irish Fairy

Ballybogs and Bogles

Ballybogs are small brown Irish fairies and are reputedly covered in mud. They get their names from the peat bogs of which they dwell. Ballybogs also live in Wales and Cornwall but there they prefer to go by the name of Bogles.

Some people believe that Ballybogs are guardians to the bogs. In the past, ritual human sacrifices were made in the peat bogs and coins have also been found. In return for these sacrifices and gifts, the Ballybog allowed peat to be cut for fuel.

Ballybogs are not altogether pleasant creatures and the English Ballybog or Bogle has a nasty temper.
